Data in Everyday Life: Daylight Savings Time

As the United States notes a century of its use of Daylight Savings Time,  and as mornings become darker at the western edges of time lines, a number of countries have abandoned the use of DST or never instituted it in the first place. In fact, fewer than 40 percent of countries use DST in 2018. Although nearly 80 percent of North American countries have never used DST, this is somewhat misleading, since most of those who have never applied it are Caribbean islands with much smaller populations and area than the US or Canada. Using data at face value demands more questions, this chart shows.
