Data in everyday life: World Snake Day

This month, the U.S. celebrates Independence Day—not a holiday for our British friends, to be sure. One holiday that is celebrated universally, apparently, is World Snake Day (July 16). While Australia has a reputation for its poisonous snakes, it has surprisingly few fatalities, compared to other places with fewer venomous varieties.   1. Whereas the snake bite / fatality report is interesting it should be reported as a percentage of the population or fatalities per 100,000 to show a true correlation.
