Save time by creating your own defaults

Matt Savage“Easy to use right out of the box,” is what SQCpack users say about the software. It can be even easier if you customize default settings to align better with your specific needs.

Among the ways you can customize SQCpack are by changing default chart settings and altering entry preferences. Like the software itself, customizing defaults is easy to do and will save you time in the future.

When you select a default chart icon in SQCpack, the chart that appears represents default values; that is, it reflects common charting patterns that have been selected by the program’s developers.

That chart can be edited, of course, but an even better way to assure that the chart displays your preferences is to create your own chart defaults. Then, every new chart you create will appear in the format that you want, rather than one that someone else designed for you.

If, for example, you want to display a specific set of statistics with histograms (perhaps mean, estimated sigma, calculated sigma, Cpk, Ppk, Cpm, Dpm, and theoretical percent out-of-spec), you can create your own histogram defaults, as this chart indicates:

To set defaults, start SQCpack and select Setup, Default histogram, Descriptive stats, or Capability stats. Then select the statistics that you want to display with every histogram.

Once you have saved those default settings, they will be applied every time you create a new group and/or a new chart. This feature will not only save you time editing the chart, but also help to maintain consistency among the charts that you create.

If you have a data group that you want to use multiple times but don’t want it to be the default, there is an option for that as well. You can copy an already created group and choose to not include the group’s data. This comes in handy if you would like to use the same settings for multiple groups. Think of it as creating a template group.

Other ways of customizing SQCpack include selecting out-of-control testing options to label such conditions when they occur, editing multiple characteristics and charting options to enhance comparison of two or more charts, and choice lists for assignable causes and identifiers.
